Jacque Louise Corder Scott

A memorial service celebrating the life of Jacque Corder Scott will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Epworth Methodist Church, Chickasha, Oklahoma, with Dr. Rockford Johnson officiating. Jacque departed this life on April 3, 2013 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 72. Born in Keota, Oklahoma, on May 2, 1940, she was the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth Overstreet and Robert Lee Corder.

Jacque’s family moved to Durant, Oklahoma, where she started as a first grader and graduated as a proud member of the 1958 class of Durant High School. Jacque continued her education at Southeastern Oklahoma State img906 (481x640)University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1962 and a Masters of teaching in 1964. While in college, she married Charles V. Scott on August 12, 1961, in Durant.

Jacque began her teaching career in Ardmore and later taught in Norman, Moore, and Chickasha. Her teaching career spanned thirty-eight years. During that time, she was selected as building Teacher of the Year four times, Young Educator of the year in 1967 in Moore Public Schools, and Teacher of the Year in 1989 in Chickasha Public Schools. Jacque served as a mentor for more than thirty student teachers from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. After retiring from teaching, she was an Adjunct Student Teacher Supervisor for USAO for several years. She was a member of several professional organizations and served on a number of committees. Jacque was a Charter Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter in Moore and served two years as president in local chapters.

Jacque was active in several Methodist churches. She taught children’s classes and served as the sponsor of the MYF group in Moore and as a summer camp counselor for the Ardmore District and the South Oklahoma City District. Jacque was a member of the choir and served on a number of committees over the years.

Jacque’s interests included art, music, reading, tennis, cats, and especially her grandchildren. She always managed to end up in the children’s section of department stores.

Jacque was preceded in death by both parents.

Survivors include: husband Dr. Charles V. Scott of Chickasha; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lance and Lori Scott of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Josie and James McKenny OF Edmond, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Elise, Emory, and Ford Stephenson and Sydney and Samantha Scott all of Edmond; step-grandchildren, Carly McKenny and Amanda Mills of Edmond, and David McKenny of Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, James and Julia Corder of Annapolis, MD; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and James Johns of Lubbock, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Henry and Inez Scott of Denison, TX; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Don Johnson of Frisco, TX; aunts Doris Schnelting of Kingman, KS, and Pauline Sampson of Stigler, OK, and a number of very special nieces and nephews in Texas and Maryland, as well as many special friends.

Family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Epworth Methodist Church, or another organization.
