Abbott Overton Nelson
Abbott Overton Nelson was born in Pampa, Texas, on March 12, 1933, the son of Ezell Nelson and Clarice Gladys Abbott Nelson. He died Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Amber, Oklahoma.
After graduating from Amber High School in 1951, he attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Journalism. After graduation he became employed with Oklahoma Memorial Union as the food director. Abbott joined the Peace Corp as a volunteer and served two years in Africa. Later he worked in public relations in food service and housing in Hawaii, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
He received a masters degree in English from the University of Hawaii, he then became an English teacher in Los Angeles, California. After returning to Chickasha he became a travel agent at Travel Adventure as co-owner and operator for many years. Abbott retired at the age of seventy, but continued to work part time at a local convenience store.
He was a big Oklahoma Sooner fan and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family and friends whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
Survivors include: sister; Ezell Potter and husband Jerry of Edmond, Oklahoma, four brothers; Jack Nelson and wife Susan of Bryan, Texas, Bill Nelson and wife Lynita of Amber, Oklahoma, John Nelson and wife Charlotte and Don Nelson and wife Judy both of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held at a later date in a private ceremony.
Services and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
