A funeral service for Shayla Lynn Mayhugh and her parents James and Patty Mayhugh, all of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Bible Baptist Church with J.C. Reed officiating and Kim Hayes assisting.

Shayla Lynn Mayhugh was born October 16, 1995 in Norman, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Lee Mayhugh and Patty Jane (Burnett) Mayhugh. She passed from this life on Friday, May 10, 2024 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Shayla grew up in Chickasha, attending Pioneer until the 8th grade and graduating from Chickasha High School in 2014. She then went to USAO and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English with a minor in Spanish.

She worked for the Grady County Law Enforcement Center for a year and then started working at R & M Body Shop with her dad, most recently as a painter.

She was outrageously funny and was always cracking a joke; she recently came to work dressed up as a former employee, did a great impersonation and then went to change into another former employee. Her and her Nana, Betty Jean, enjoyed going to concerts together and they once followed “stalked” Brooks & Dunn for miles. She loved Taylor Swift and was an original “Swifty” and she had a life size poster of Taylor on her wall. She lived for Dr. Pepper.

Shayla should have been a detective, she could find anyone, anywhere. She enjoyed going for ride-alongs with the local law enforcement and she had taken several classes with the Chickasha Citizen Police Academy. She was the kind of friend you look for your whole life. She was a great writer; she wrote wonderful songs and had received several awards for poems entered into state contest.

James, Patty and Shayla died on the same day and they will be memorialized together in the same service. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Glen and Bonnie Burnett; uncle Orvil Burnett, aunt Glenda O’Rear, and uncle Terry Lynn Mayhugh.

Loved ones left to remember Shayla are her grandparents Betty Jean Ford of Chickasha, Leroy and Pam Mayhugh of Chickasha; brother Jacob Mayhugh of Chickasha; uncles and aunts Todd and Robin Burnett of Newcastle, Joey and Angie Burnett of Burleson, Texas, Stephanie and Brandon Sloan of Amber, Missie and Shayne Melton of Chickasha and Troy Hoover of Missouri; great-aunts Charlotte McConnell and husband Glen, Mavis Smith, and Vivian Dillard; cousins Stormy and Hunter Diedrich, Brandon and Jessica Burnett and their daughter Evie, Adam Burnett, Savannah Burnett, Jason and Melissa O’Rear and their children Jude and Jack, April Mayfield and Edson and children Bo, Lucas, Shyann, and Ethan, Laurie Barnett, Debbie and Ivan Bradford and children Tatym and Blaine, Jennifer Sparks, Cole Burnett, Chris Burnett, Stanley Mayhugh, Rashanda Mayhugh, Mallorie and Patrick Reiss, Ayden Sloan, Wyatt Melton,  Michael Dillard, and Lisa and Ronni Smith and many other extended family and friends.
